Robotics Information
The Shaw Center hosts robotics clubs from Katy I.S.D. high schools who participate in FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics competitions. High School teams come to the Shaw Center in the evenings and on weekends to build their robots and prepare for the many elements of a robotics competition.
FIRST Robotics Competitions (FRC) are high-energy, international robotics competitions for high school students, organized by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). These competitions combine engineering, teamwork, and innovation with real-world problem-solving and sports-like excitement.
Skills acquired by students as they prepare for competition include mechanical design and CAD, programming, electrical systems, project management, teamwork and communication, outreach and fundraising.
Supporting robotics aligns with the Katy ISD mission statement which include the phrases, "providing unparalleled learning experiences" and "to create the future."
